A big part of running a great radio station is knowing your listeners. To help you with that, we’re pleased to unveil a revamped listener statistics page for Airtime Pro that shows where your listeners are, how long they’re listening for, and what they’re listening to.

Session duration distribution - Bins and displays how long your audience listens for

We’ve split the Listener Statistics page up into several different reports, including:

  • A “Geolocation” report showing a map of your listeners and top countries or cities
  • A “Most Popular Shows” report, showing your most listened to shows
  • “Aggregate Listener Hours” (or aggregate tuning hours), which charts the sum of all listening sessions each day
  • A “Listening Session Durations” report, which shows how long you’re keeping your audience for

With these new analytics, you’ll be able to glean new insights about your listeners and better tailor your Airtime Pro radio station to your audience.

Lastly, we’d love to hear your feedback on these new reports. Are there any other metrics or filters you’d like to see? Leave a comment below or send us an email!

Airtime Pro now lets you upload tracks from your library directly to your station’s SoundCloud page. If you frequently broadcast full, pre-produced radio shows, this new feature can help you streamline your audio publishing workflow. Title, genre, and year metadata are passed along to SoundCloud to save you time, and you can set a default visibility and license for new uploads in the preferences.

To enable uploading to SoundCloud, go to the Preferences page under System, and click “Connect to SoundCloud”.

TuneIn is the most popular mobile radio app in the world, with a station directory of over 100,000 radio stations. Now, Airtime Pro can automatically update the artist name and track title metadata for your station on TuneIn so that listeners will see it in real time.

TuneIn Support

After a beta period, today we’re unveiling official support for TuneIn on Airtime Pro, along with a new embedded schedule widget.

TuneIn is the most popular mobile radio app in the world, with a station directory of over 100,000 radio stations. Listing your station on TuneIn is a great way to attract a global audience on mobile devices, and with our new update, Airtime Pro can now automatically update the artist name and track title metadata for your station on TuneIn so that listeners will see it in real time.

To enable TuneIn metadata updates for your station:

  1. Read the top of the TuneIn Broadcasters page and email TuneIn with your station ID to get an API key. The page explains how to find your station ID from your TuneIn URL.
  2. Inside your Airtime Pro station, go to System->Preferences, and under TuneIn Settings, fill in your Station ID, Partner ID, and Partner Key that TuneIn emails back to you.
  3. That’s it! Your Airtime Pro station will start sending metadata updates to TuneIn automatically when the next track starts playing.

Embeddable Schedule Widget

We’re also pleased to announce a new embeddable schedule widget. Using a similar design to the schedule widget on the Radio Page, you can now easily embed the schedule for your Airtime Pro station on your website simply by copying a snippet of HTML and pasting it into your website’s code.

As a note to users, under the ‘System’ menu we renamed the ‘Player’ page to ‘Embeddable Widgets’. This is where you will be able to find the embeddable player and schedule widget. You will also be able to find the link to the Radio Page in the navigation bar.

We’re pleased to announce the newest addition to Airtime Pro: The Radio Page.

The Radio Page is a built-in microsite that lets your fans easily listen to your radio station, and is perfect for new broadcasters that don’t yet have a full website. The page features a modern, mobile-friendly design and is available to every Airtime Pro station today.

The new Radio Page microsite includes:

  • A player that streams your station
  • A schedule widget that displays your weekly schedule of shows
  • Your own station logo, name, and description (these can be edited in your station’s preferences)
  • A login button where you station’s management can login and be redirected to the private Airtime web application

The best part of the new Radio Page is that it is public to everyone and can be accessed by visiting the station’s domain. For example, we created a Radio Page using our Sourcefabric radio station, your URL would look something like this (insert your station name where “sourcefabric” is:  https://sourcefabric.airtime.pro).

One of the benefits of hosting your internet radio station with Airtime Pro is that we’re constantly improving our platform based on your feedback, and so we’d love to hear your thoughts on the new Radio Page. What else would you like to offer your listeners on the Radio Page?

Our developers are constantly pushing out new updates for Airtime Pro. This week’s update includes a number of optimizations aimed at making Airtime faster and more responsive. We’ve reduced the overall average page load time by almost 50% and made significant improvements to the responsiveness of the ‘Now Playing’ screen. The changes will be especially noticeable if you’re a heavy user of the ‘Now Playing’ screen and have a full 24-hour schedule, where some actions are up to 3X faster than before.

Reduction in load time for key pages with the optimizations in this week’s Airtime Pro update.

We accomplished these performance improvements by starting with rigorous in-browser profiling, and then by improving key code paths or interactions that had high impacts on load times. Our optimizations involved significantly reducing the number of requests required to load all data on pages, optimizing our JavaScript and DOM manipulation, and lastly optimizing certain frequently called functions in our backend PHP code.

Getting worry-free enhancements like this is one of the benefits of hosting your radio station with Airtime Pro, and we’ve got plenty more in store for the coming months.

Load time benchmarks were performed in Chrome 41 on an Intel Core i5 with 6 GB of RAM, on Ubuntu 14.04. All stations were hosted on Airtime Pro.

Good news Airtime users! We are excited to introduce you to our brand new Airtime Pro Player Widget. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

This feature allows you to easily embed your Airtime Pro station on any website with just one line of HTML code. Simple, right? So why should you be as excited about this new player widget as we are? Well, to sum it up, your listeners are going to love it and we’ve made it really easy to use.

This widget will automatically play the stream with the best compatibility with the listener’s platform. If your listener limit is reached on a stream, it falls back to your alternate streams.
Because mobile phone media consumption is becoming increasingly prevalent, this player was made to be mobile friendly by allowing the playback of a lower quality “mobile” stream, if one is enabled in your station’s ‘Stream Settings’ page.

Mobile stream

Streams can now be designated as mobile-friendly so that they’re automatically streamed at a lower quality to listeners on a mobile device.

This feature is fully compatible with the following platforms: Windows, Mac OS X, and iOS. Currently, only limited usage is possible on Android. For the best compatibility on the desktop, Adobe Flash is recommended, but not required. (HTML5 is used if Flash is unavailable).

The new player widget can be found inside your Airtime station under SYSTEM -> Player.

Your feedback and suggestions help shape the future of Airtime Pro, so let us know what you think of the new Airtime Pro Player Widget on Facebook, Twitter, or by email!

Stay tuned for new “How to embed” tutorials coming soon.
