Holiday present for you, Airtimers: Radio Page 2.0!

The Airtime Pro team is proud to announce the brand new Radio Page, set to go live on December 12. All current trial and paid stations will be upgraded automatically.

The new specs have been designed to meet Airtime Pro users’ needs, especially when it comes to making your programming more social, shareable and fun to use. This design and functionality release is part of a bigger project to add more features to Radio Page.

Let’s see what’s new!

Schedule page

Schedule page

  • We moved the station description to the Home page (Start) so that everyone can see what your station is about right away…
  • Which is why Schedule Overview has moved to the “second” page.
  • You can now customize your background image.
  • Station admins can also try different Color Schemes for their Radio Page.

  • The navigation menu has moved from bottom to the left-hand side.

Podcast Page

  • We added Social Media Links (under the logo). Station admins can customize links.
  • You can help first-time listeners understand what your station is all about by adding Station Tags (category/genre).
  • Show Information is a new feature where you can say more about  your ongoing/scheduled shows.
  • We gave the Playout toolbar at the bottom of the page a makeover so it looks crisp and clean.

Share track

Share track

  • We added Automated Track Artwork display.
  • Desktop users will appreciate the new Volume bar.
  • The Share Track button lets your listeners share Now Playing tracks via Twitter, Facebook, Google +, or their email accounts.  Along with the Social Media Links in the top left corner, this new feature will get the word out about your station!
  • The Embed Button takes sharing one step further. Listeners can embed your player widget on their own, wherever they want.

  • The new Radio Page comes with responsive design, which will make it look good on all devices, especially mobile ones.

We’re excited to announce that Airtime Pro and Twitter are now best friends. The Airtime Pro team has launched a Twitter integration so that your station can keep your Twitter fans updated on what you’ve been playing and what shows are going live.

Auto-tweeting formats

Using powerful template tags, you are able to customize exactly what you’d like to tell your listeners. The automatic show notifications option allows stations to let their fans know exactly when to tune in to listen to their favorite programming. Automatic track tweets let listeners know what’s playing and gives them a great idea of what type of content the current show features.

Screen Shot 2016-05-31 at 09.45.57

We’ve also added the ability to manually tweet from the Airtime Pro dashboard. This lets your DJs interact with their listeners, announce contests, or tweet links to cute cat gifs. What are you waiting for? Get started tweeting!

A big part of running a great radio station is knowing your listeners. To help you with that, we’re pleased to unveil a revamped listener statistics page for Airtime Pro that shows where your listeners are, how long they’re listening for, and what they’re listening to.

Session duration distribution - Bins and displays how long your audience listens for

We’ve split the Listener Statistics page up into several different reports, including:

  • A “Geolocation” report showing a map of your listeners and top countries or cities
  • A “Most Popular Shows” report, showing your most listened to shows
  • “Aggregate Listener Hours” (or aggregate tuning hours), which charts the sum of all listening sessions each day
  • A “Listening Session Durations” report, which shows how long you’re keeping your audience for

With these new analytics, you’ll be able to glean new insights about your listeners and better tailor your Airtime Pro radio station to your audience.

Lastly, we’d love to hear your feedback on these new reports. Are there any other metrics or filters you’d like to see? Leave a comment below or send us an email!

If you’re looking to move your radio station off of Live365, this short FAQ will help you decide if Airtime Pro is right for you:

What is Airtime Pro?

Airtime Pro is an online radio hosting platform, which includes our best-in-class radio scheduling software, expandable storage, stream hosting, a page for your radio station, widgets for your own website, TuneIn integration, podcasting/on-demand streaming, a facebook widget and more. Our software allows you to broadcast 24/7 with automated, pre-scheduled shows, and broadcast live at any time with Icecast-compatible software like Mixxx. Airtime Pro supports an unlimited number of DJs per station too. Lastly, most Airtime Pro plans come with built-in live chat support, so you can easily reach our support team if you get stuck.

Show off your station with a built-in dedicated radio player page.

Show off your station with a built-in dedicated radio player page.

Will my stream be licensed to webcast music in the United States?

Airtime Pro does not charge or pay royalties for the use of commercially released music, or any other copyrighted works. You must cover any royalties which you may be required to pay. However, Airtime Pro is fully compatible with streamlicensing.com, so if you wish to webcast commercially released music to listeners in the United States and/or Canada, we recommend that you contact this service to arrange SoundExchange, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and SOCAN licensing as a small webcaster. Please note that talk stations and other webcasters which exclusively stream their own, original content are not generally obliged to pay streaming royalties.

Where is your service based?

Airtime Pro is administered and hosted by Sourcefabric in Europe, with a development office in Canada.

Do you provide a custom player?

Airtime Pro comes with an easily embeddable player widget, but you are free to use any Icecast-compatible player widget on your own website, such as the MUSES Radio Player, and customize that to your liking.

The player widget in action

A preview of our embedded player widget.

How many listener hours can I stream?

Our plans allow you to stream to a certain number of listeners at the same time, but also limit the total streaming bandwidth your station may consume in a given month. For example, our Starter package offers up to 400 listeners concurrently.

To offer these high concurrent listener limits, we also limit the total bandwidth your streams may use within a calendar month. This balance means you don’t have to worry as much about hitting your listener cap if you get a sudden surge in popularity. For example, our Starter package currently comes with 3 TB of bandwidth per month, which is equivalent to about 100,000 listener hours per month when streaming at a quality of 64 kbps.

How many hours per month can I broadcast live for?

Unlimited.

How many DJs can I invite to join my station?

Unlimited.

What kind of support do you offer?

All plans include email and ticket support provided by our dedicated support team, and some plans even include live chat support too (find out more about our plans.) Our support team is available from 07:00 – 22:00 UTC Monday – Friday.

Do your plans include Icecast streaming?

Yes. Each plan comes with our own Airtime Pro streaming services included, which are based on Icecast. Airtime Pro can also be configured to broadcast using a third party Icecast server.

Do I need desktop software? A mobile app? How do I stream live?

Airtime Pro runs in the cloud, so scheduling playlists can be done entirely from your web browser. If you’d like to do live broadcasting, then you’ll currently need to download an Icecast-compatible source client like Mixxx (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux). To broadcast through Airtime Pro from your mobile phone, we recommend BroadcastMySelf (Android) or KoalaSAN (iOS).

I have a question not listed here!

Please get in touch and we’d be happy to answer it!

Get the most out of your station with this tutorial for the new podcast feature

The podcast feed built into your Airtime Pro station can be used as a simple way to distribute radio programs with partner stations. Anything you upload to Airtime Pro can be published to your podcast feed, so this will work if you’re uploading full radio programs you’ve already stitched together into single tracks, such as interviews, or other content you’d like to share such as advertisements or jingles. Since Airtime Pro can also subscribe to podcasts, what you’ll do is get your partner stations to subscribe to your podcast, who will then be able to download anything you publish to your podcast feed. By having stations subscribe to each other’s’ podcasts, you can easy build up a radio network with shared content to help fill out your broadcast schedules.

The first thing you’ll want to do is publish some radio programs to your podcast feed. To find out how to do that, check out our previous blog post.

Next, if you only want to share radio programs with certain people, you’ll need to change your ‘Feed Privacy’ setting. Click My Podcast in the navigation bar on the left, and scroll down to Privacy Settings. Set the Feed Privacy to Private. Click Save, and then copy the Feed URL that’s shown. That is a secret link that allows people to access your podcast feed and download anything published to it, so you’ll need to send this URL to your partner stations.

Copy and paste this link to share your station

Let’s walk through what your partner stations would have to do to add your podcast RSS feed to their library. In the navigation bar on the left, under ‘Dashboard’, click Podcasts. In the Podcasts view, click Add in the toolbar. A subscription box will appear, in which you need to paste the podcast feed URL you found earlier:

RSS Feed URL

RSS feed URL

Click Subscribe afterward, and you’ll now be able to see the feed in your library. By default, Airtime Pro will import any new episodes published to the feed, so your partners will be able to automatically find anything you publish in their track library within an hour or so.

To browse and import individual episodes from a podcast, select it in the Podcasts view, and click the View Episodes button.

That’s it! In this tutorial, we’ve shown how you can use the podcast publishing and import features to publish radio tracks from one station and import them automatically on another station.

Podcasts are an essential channel for many radio stations due to their ability to reach offline listeners and offer a great solution for on-demand listening. To help you capitalize on that, we’ve built podcast hosting right into your Airtime Pro station so you can broadcast and podcast all in one place.

Getting started with podcasting

To start publishing with your podcast in Airtime Pro, the first thing you’ll want to do is visit the My Podcast page from the navigation menu on the left.

Configure podcast metadata

Configure podcast metadata

On the ‘My Podcast’ page, you can configure metadata about your podcast, like the name, description, and other information that will show up about your podcast when someone subscribes to it in a podcasting app or RSS news reader. If you don’t want your podcast feed to be visible to everyone, you can set your Feed Privacy setting to Private, and then share the secret link with your friends.

Publishing to your podcast

Next, to publish a track to your podcast, we’re going to assume you already have some tracks in your Airtime library. In the Tracks view of the Dashboard, click on a track to highlight it, and click Publish. The publishing view will appear like this:

Upload to soundcloud and publish in one click

Upload to Soundcloud and publish in one click

From the publishing view, you can publish the track to both SoundCloud and your podcast. Check off the My Podcast box, and click Publish to finish. That track will now appear in your podcast feed and on the podcast tab of your Radio Page.

Let’s see what the track looks like your Radio Page now. Click Radio Page, and click the podcasting tab icon in the bottom right corner. You’ll now see your podcast feed and can listen to your published track. This page is accessible to anyone you share the link with, so it’s a great way to reach more listeners.

While we’re on the topic of sharing, it’s important to note that you must only share content that you have permission to. For example, sharing copyrighted content created by others is typically not allowed. However, radio programs that contain original content that you’ve created yourself are typically OK, such as an interview, a talk radio program, or a news segment.

We want you to get the most out of your radio station, that’s why we just created two brand new features for Airtime Pro. If you aren’t already an Airtime user, take a minute to sign up for a free trial. Within your station, you will notice that there are a couple changes. Read on to find out more.

Built-in podcast feed for Airtime Pro

As many of you know, podcasts have seen a significant resurgence in popularity ever since the release of NPR’s Serial podcast. Podcasts are radio programs available for download on-demand over the internet and are the best way to reach any listeners who’ve missed your radio broadcast. That’s why podcasts are a logical extension of our internet radio broadcasting software, Airtime Pro. We recently decided to create a few brand new and exciting features for Airtime Pro that will help broadcasters take advantage of this explosion in podcast popularity. So without further ado, welcome to the new built-in podcast feed for Airtime Pro.

My Podcast

To help you better reach your listeners, Airtime Pro now gives you a built-in podcast feed for your radio station. After uploading a full-length radio show to your station, you can easily publish it to your podcast feed and SoundCloud in only two clicks. The best part? Your podcast feed can be browsed, played, and subscribed to right from your Radio Page today. Just click the new Podcast icon on your Radio Page to check it out!
Built-in podcast feed

Podcast ingest

Airtime Pro can now subscribe to your favorite podcast feeds and automatically download new episodes into your track library, bringing the best radio content from the web directly to your station. This powerful feature can save you time by aggregating and importing tracks for you.

Station-to-station sharing

Now that Airtime Pro can import and publish podcast episodes, you can easily share radio programs with your partner stations by publishing them to your podcast. If you’d prefer to share only with other stations and not your listeners, you can do that by toggling your Podcast Visibility to Private and sharing the secret link only with those stations.

Facebook widget

How strong is your social media game? Whether you have an established presence on Facebook or are just getting started, adding the new Facebook player widget will take your page to the next level.

The built-in podcast feed is conveniently displayed on the radio page

This new widget allows you to add your radio station to your Facebook page. The widget appears as a “Radio Player” tab on your Facebook page and lets your fans listen to your radio station and podcast right from your page. The new Facebook widget can be found inside your Airtime Pro station by clicking Widgets on the left, then Facebook.

The Airtime Pro team believes that technology can be a powerful solution to limited resources. Airtime Pro gives anyone with a computer, an internet connection, and an idea, the platform they need to reach out and engage with as large an audience as they can find without dependency on investor oversight. Airtime Pro is already operating at Ryerson University and proving itself to be a great tool. Their early success has inspired us to once again go beyond just telling you what we’ve built.

Simply put, college radio is an institution, one we’re proud to help drive into the 21st century.

So, in the interest of doing just that, and creating greater access to more powerful tools around the world, we’re excited, even proud to offer a 45% discount for all new academic Airtime.pro plans between now and the end of October. After October, we will be featuring an ongoing discount of 30% to all academic plans.

How do I qualify?

It’s easy. Be a student or a teacher and have the account affiliated with an educational organization. While we’d love to open this up to everyone, we think that we can have the greatest impact this time around by engaging with academic institutions. We’re not exactly shy with our promotional offers (it’s a hazard of believing so strongly about what you build), so keep an eye on this blog.

Some of the benefits you can offer your college or university with Airtime Pro include:

  • Live and pre-recorded interviews with special guests – students, professors, local bands, visiting speakers, local politicians
  • Engage your community
  • Promote important discussion
  • Broadcast critical school updates
  • Share the creative work of the student body
  • Share recorded lectures online
  • Easy, affordable practicum opportunity for public speaking, broadcasting, and presentations
  • Go it alone or develop complex team-building exercises

Additional new features can be found here.

As much as we’d like to, we can’t run this promotion forever, so to take advantage of the 45% discount, sign up by the end of October. Ensure that you and your school has the opportunity it needs to benefit from Airtime.pro’s powerful solution and slick, easy interface.

Connect with us, be the next voice, whether you’re Rodney on the Rock or Ira Glass, John Peel or Dr. Demento, get Airtime.pro and be heard.
