Get the most out of your station with this tutorial for the new podcast feature

The podcast feed built into your Airtime Pro station can be used as a simple way to distribute radio programs with partner stations. Anything you upload to Airtime Pro can be published to your podcast feed, so this will work if you’re uploading full radio programs you’ve already stitched together into single tracks, such as interviews, or other content you’d like to share such as advertisements or jingles. Since Airtime Pro can also subscribe to podcasts, what you’ll do is get your partner stations to subscribe to your podcast, who will then be able to download anything you publish to your podcast feed. By having stations subscribe to each other’s’ podcasts, you can easy build up a radio network with shared content to help fill out your broadcast schedules.

The first thing you’ll want to do is publish some radio programs to your podcast feed. To find out how to do that, check out our previous blog post.

Next, if you only want to share radio programs with certain people, you’ll need to change your ‘Feed Privacy’ setting. Click My Podcast in the navigation bar on the left, and scroll down to Privacy Settings. Set the Feed Privacy to Private. Click Save, and then copy the Feed URL that’s shown. That is a secret link that allows people to access your podcast feed and download anything published to it, so you’ll need to send this URL to your partner stations.

Let’s walk through what your partner stations would have to do to add your podcast RSS feed to their library. In the navigation bar on the left, under ‘Dashboard’, click Podcasts. In the Podcasts view, click Add in the toolbar. A subscription box will appear, in which you need to paste the podcast feed URL you found earlier:

Click Subscribe afterward, and you’ll now be able to see the feed in your library. By default, Airtime Pro will import any new episodes published to the feed, so your partners will be able to automatically find anything you publish in their track library within an hour or so.

To browse and import individual episodes from a podcast, select it in the Podcasts view, and click the View Episodes button.

That’s it! In this tutorial, we’ve shown how you can use the podcast publishing and import features to publish radio tracks from one station and import them automatically on another station.

Podcasts are an essential channel for many radio stations due to their ability to reach offline listeners and offer a great solution for on-demand listening. To help you capitalize on that, we’ve built podcast hosting right into your Airtime Pro station so you can broadcast and podcast all in one place.

Getting started with podcasting

To start publishing with your podcast in Airtime Pro, the first thing you’ll want to do is visit the My Podcast page from the navigation menu on the left.

Configure podcast metadata

On the ‘My Podcast’ page, you can configure metadata about your podcast, like the name, description, and other information that will show up about your podcast when someone subscribes to it in a podcasting app or RSS news reader. If you don’t want your podcast feed to be visible to everyone, you can set your Feed Privacy setting to Private, and then share the secret link with your friends.

Publishing to your podcast

Next, to publish a track to your podcast, we’re going to assume you already have some tracks in your Airtime library. In the Tracks view of the Dashboard, click on a track to highlight it, and click Publish. The publishing view will appear like this:

Upload to soundcloud and publish in one click

From the publishing view, you can publish the track to both SoundCloud and your podcast. Check off the My Podcast box, and click Publish to finish. That track will now appear in your podcast feed and on the podcast tab of your Radio Page.

Let’s see what the track looks like your Radio Page now. Click Radio Page, and click the podcasting tab icon in the bottom right corner. You’ll now see your podcast feed and can listen to your published track. This page is accessible to anyone you share the link with, so it’s a great way to reach more listeners.

While we’re on the topic of sharing, it’s important to note that you must only share content that you have permission to. For example, sharing copyrighted content created by others is typically not allowed. However, radio programs that contain original content that you’ve created yourself are typically OK, such as an interview, a talk radio program, or a news segment.

We want you to get the most out of your radio station, that’s why we just created two brand new features for Airtime Pro. If you aren’t already an Airtime user, take a minute to sign up for a free trial. Within your station, you will notice that there are a couple changes. Read on to find out more.

Built-in podcast feed for Airtime Pro

As many of you know, podcasts have seen a significant resurgence in popularity ever since the release of NPR’s Serial podcast. Podcasts are radio programs available for download on-demand over the internet and are the best way to reach any listeners who’ve missed your radio broadcast. That’s why podcasts are a logical extension of our internet radio broadcasting software, Airtime Pro. We recently decided to create a few brand new and exciting features for Airtime Pro that will help broadcasters take advantage of this explosion in podcast popularity. So without further ado, welcome to the new built-in podcast feed for Airtime Pro.

My Podcast

To help you better reach your listeners, Airtime Pro now gives you a built-in podcast feed for your radio station. After uploading a full-length radio show to your station, you can easily publish it to your podcast feed and SoundCloud in only two clicks. The best part? Your podcast feed can be browsed, played, and subscribed to right from your Radio Page today. Just click the new Podcast icon on your Radio Page to check it out!

Podcast ingest

Airtime Pro can now subscribe to your favorite podcast feeds and automatically download new episodes into your track library, bringing the best radio content from the web directly to your station. This powerful feature can save you time by aggregating and importing tracks for you.

Station-to-station sharing

Now that Airtime Pro can import and publish podcast episodes, you can easily share radio programs with your partner stations by publishing them to your podcast. If you’d prefer to share only with other stations and not your listeners, you can do that by toggling your Podcast Visibility to Private and sharing the secret link only with those stations.

Facebook widget

How strong is your social media game? Whether you have an established presence on Facebook or are just getting started, adding the new Facebook player widget will take your page to the next level.

This new widget allows you to add your radio station to your Facebook page. The widget appears as a “Radio Player” tab on your Facebook page and lets your fans listen to your radio station and podcast right from your page. The new Facebook widget can be found inside your Airtime Pro station by clicking Widgets on the left, then Facebook.
